You can pass the exam before you resign

Assemble your passport, degree, internship certificate, council registration, experience letters and a recent certificate of good standing. Read the name on every one. If your documents disagree with your passport, correct that before you submit anything, because verification will otherwise stall for weeks.

Note the institution requirement as well: the regulator maintains a list of recognised universities and training programmes, and it has become more selective over the years. Confirm that your institution appears on the current list before you spend anything.

Primary Source Verification through DataFlow is compulsory for every applicant. It is the longest single stage of the Qatar route, and it is also the stage you can start immediately.

The sensible approach is to begin verification on day one and treat the waiting period as your study period. Doctors who wait for verification to finish before opening a book add two months to their timeline for no benefit.

Submit your application through the regulator's portal. Once your credentials are reviewed and verification has returned a positive result, you become eligible to book the examination through Prometric, at a centre in Qatar or internationally.

International applicants may also apply for a preliminary evaluation, which produces an eligibility letter you can show to prospective employers while the rest of the process continues. It is valid for six months from the date it is issued, and if it lapses you apply again with the previous evaluation documents attached. It is not a licence to practise.

One hundred and fifty single best answer questions in three hours, in English, covering general clinical practice: internal medicine, surgery, paediatrics, obstetrics and gynaecology, and the common presentations of family medicine.

You need ninety correct answers to pass, and you have five attempts. That is a genuinely reasonable margin, which means the sensible target is a comfortable pass on the first attempt rather than a nervous one.

Passing the examination is a licensing requirement, not the licence itself. To activate your licence and begin working, you need an employing facility in Qatar to sponsor you, and your residence permit follows from that employment.

This is exactly why the sequence advantage matters. You can arrive at the job market already examined, already verified, and therefore considerably easier for an employer to hire.

Qatar is small, and that single fact shapes everything. Commutes are short, distances are manageable, and the day does not disappear into travel. Clinics are well ordered and standards are clearly defined, which many doctors find a relief after less predictable systems.

Outside work there is a coastline, a strong cultural sector, excellent international schools and a large, settled expatriate community. It is a compact and comfortable country rather than a dramatic one, and for doctors with families that is usually the point.

There is no personal income tax on salaries, wages and allowances. Housing costs in Doha are significant, so pay close attention to whether accommodation is provided, subsidised or left to you, because that single line changes the real value of an offer more than the basic salary does.
